Rules for Hosting
- You are applying to be hosted at a sub-domain of avada-kedavra.net. I only host domains on a case-by-case basis, and this is usually for friends or for current hostees that have decided to upgrade to a domain name.
- I host nearly any type of site at avada-kedavra.net, but I would prefer that it be related to Harry Potter in some way. This is not a strict rule, as I have hosted personal blogs, portfolios & collectives in the past.
- When applying for hosting, don't assume that I will accept you. Believe it or not, I DO have a certain standard that I expect all of my hostees to meet.
- You need to show me that you have the experience and expertise capable of running your site. Please provide me with a working URL to a current site so that I may see an example.
- You need to keep your site in perfect working order. This includes regular updates (at least once every 3 months), as well as site maintenance.
- You are responsible for ensuring that any scripts you use on the site are updated and secure. Jem has a wonderful article on her website about Unsafe PHP Scripts and Safer Alternatives.
- No large files of any kind are to be hosted on your website. If you have videos that you want to put up, try using a streaming facility such as YouTube or MegaVideo.
- Please comply with the Dreamhost Terms of Service. If I receive a warning from my host because you violated the Terms of Service, your website will be deleted.
What you get
- Webspace. This is not really limited, as I am currently hosted with Dreamhost who have offered a LOT of space and a LOT of bandwidth. However, if you're using a lot of space, I might ask you to find hosting elsewhere. Don't worry, though - Dreamhost are plenty cheap! IN fact, why don't you check out their prices? If you use the promocode AVADAKEDAVRA, you'll even get a free domain name!
- FTP access to your site.
- An email address, if you need one. Most people are happy with the one they've got, however, so don't ask for an email address if you're not going to use it. That's being wasteful of resources.
